"On the 14th July, 1958 at 1.40pm, my attention was drawn to an object in the sky above the new Railway Marshalling Yards at Wulkuraka, outside Ipswich. I was told that the object had been stationary for about 5 minutes before it was pointed out to me. With the naked eye it appeared only as a flat thin bright object. However I focussed my theodolite on it and discerned its shape as shown on the sketch attached. Outlines were not clear cut due to a strong heat haze. There was no wind or cloud and the usual midday winter sun. My view of the object was not obstructed at any time. The object was perfectly stationary for approx 5 to 10 minutes at an elevation and bearing of 6 degrees 30 minutes and 316 degrees approximately. It then moved towards the northern horizon an intermediate position being elevation 2 degrees 21 minutes and bearing 311 degrees 55 minutes and disappeared behind trees at an elevation of 1 degree 33 minutes and bearing of 310 degrees 21 minutes. When about to disappear, the object was invisible to the naked eye and showed only as a white pin point of light in the theodolite. The movement took approximately 10 minutes. Altogether the object was seen for 20 to 25 minutes. It moved in one straight course at a constant speed. No idea of height or size was obtained. The underside was of an almost incandescent whiteness, and the upper side appeared to be in soft shadow as is seen under fluorescent lights. No change of colour or shape took place and the upper portion appeared opaque. The object always remained horizontal. No sound was made or vapour smoke or vapour trail observed. There were approximately ten other witnesses of this sighting, one of whom is a surveyor. He and one or two others also observed the object through the instruments."
