Mrs A, while sitting in her backyard with her son and daughter, saw what she at first took to be scraps of paper blowing over her side gate. They were whitish in colour and despite the day being windy, they appeared to be suspended in the air. When she looked more closely, she observed that they were small discs some 22cm in diameter. There were 2 formations or rows each of 5 silvery discs. They hovered about 1m above the ground for a while before one formation. moving in a sideways direction, shot up into the air. Mrs A son tried to grab one of the remaining discs but they also flew up into the sky. UFORNSW

Deborah also mentioned an earlier sighting she had when she was about 8 yrs old.

One morning at about 6am in 1970 on a cloudless morning she saw a cigar shaped object over East StKilda. It made no sound and moved faster than any aeroplane. It had bright lights on one side and traveled horizontally across the sky in a straight line. Her comment was that it was very strange, and that there many reports on the radio at the time. Andrew’s other experience was when he was with his younger brother Bill on their parent’s farm at South Gippsland, Woodside. The boys were only 10 and 12 years old and that particular day their parents were having a get-together with about 18 to 20 people. The boys were playing outside in the field and witnessed a craft come down and land. He said they were very scared and hid behind the dam bank. He thought the shape to be cylindrical with a landing structure. He thinks they experienced time loss of about one hour and would like one day to have hypnotherapy to find out what actually had happened.

They returned to the house at dusk and informed their mother (who is still alive) of their experience. They were not allowed to go outside after that and it was passed off as a possible crashed satellite. The next day when they investigated, there was no sight of the craft that had landed. There will need to be further investigation into Andrew’s experience. Errol Newlyn UFORNSW

Bill Ireland told me about a holiday he undertook with a mate in his 4 wheel drive to North Qld. On the way back to Sydney driving on an inland country road during daylight in western Qld he felt that he was in danger of falling asleep like his mate beside him had on the long & somewhat dreary return journey. He suddenly awoke to find that he was still driving but 2 or 3 hours had passed and he was some hundreds of kilometres further along the road. He had absolutely no memory at all of having driven that distance during the afternoon & believed that he had fallen asleep at the wheel & that although his conscious brain had stopped operating he believed his brain had operated on automatic and he had continued to drive the car while asleep. 04.01.70 TERARA, NSW EARLY MORNING (CE3)
Until the first Sunday in January 1970 I was a non-believer in UFOs.

Although I grew up in a family who were not open minded as to things of an extraterrestrial nature I still managed to follow the progress of the US and Russian space programs, believing that their achievements were milestones in mankind's quest for a better understanding of the universe. Now these events seem primitive compared to the craft I witnessed at Terara and Culburra.

My parent's and I moved to Terara from St George's Basin in mid 1969 after selling our eight-acre farm on Island Point Road. My father bought a five-acre property near the intersection of Milbank Road and the main Terara Road. While we were building our house we lived in a corrugated iron shed which would eventually be a workshop and provide storage for the tractor and farm implements. Our shed was probably 40 feet long by 15 feet wide. I mention these measurements because they are relevant to the first sighting.

On the morning of the first sighting I was unable to sleep as it had been a hot night and inside the shed it was like an oven. Mum and Dad were sleeping so I put the earphone in the radio and tried to take my mind off the heat. I had just settled down when there was a weird whistling and crackling sound followed by nothing. At this stage I should like to mention that I have a keen interest in electronics and anything mechanical. So with this in mind you can understand my curiosity as to what was happening with the radio. I moved the radio around to place the aerial in a better position but that didn't work so I wiggled the earphone plug, still nothing. At first I thought the local oscillator had drifted off frequency or it may have been as simple as an audio stage failure. There was nothing just a low hiss, which seemed normal for a cheap transistor radio when there is no signal to drive the audio stages.

While I was fussing with the radio I noticed it was getting close to dawn so I decided to go outside and cool off. As I usually do I scanned the sky to see what kind of a day it was going to be. As I did I noticed a bright star over towards the Shoalhaven River (northwards) which runs almost parallel to Terara Road. I remember how bright it looked. I had never seen such a bright blue star in that portion of the sky before.

Just as I was trying to get my eyes better focused on it, it disappeared. I remember my thoughts being that stars surely don't just appear to go out, like a light being switched off. After some searching it appeared over our shed, only extremely high, too high to even guess its height. Just as before it vanished from view.

The next time I caught sight of it I almost fell to my knees. It was not very high up, perhaps only one or two thousand feet. It appeared to be flying at the height that single engine aircraft fly over towns etc. Now it was very clear what it was. It was shaped like a huge disk and from the size of our shed I would put its diameter at about 45 feet across. In the centre of the underside there was a beautiful blue glow. This was coming from a smaller circle of about 12 feet. As it descended it was wobbling from side to side and I remember feeling very numb and wondering whether to run or not. I ran to hide behind a post in the fence that separated the house paddock from the rest of the farm.

By now the craft was only a few feet from the ground. It appeared as though it was about 10 feet thick at the centre and tapered to about two or perhaps three feet at the rim. Around the outer edge of the rim I could just make out black rectangular shapes. These were darker than the actual surface of the craft, so I took them to be windows or portholes of some kind. There was no light coming from any of them.

By now the sun was just coming up and as the craft neared the ground it cast an oval shadow on the ground. As it descended even closer to the ground the beautiful blue glow from underneath was illuminating the grass, making it flatten out as though some invisible weight was being placed upon it. There was a low humming sound, something like that you hear when close to the huge transformers at a substation. The air was full of the odour of hot electrical parts. When the craft was about 5 or 6 feet from the ground a sound like a power drill could be heard and then four shiny legs extended at an angle from the underside, each about the thickness of a person's arm. On the end of each leg there was a flat plate on which the craft rested when it landed.

I sat huddled even closer behind my post in the hope that I should not be seen. After a while the electrical smell drifted away and the hum ceased along with the blue glow which just faded away. The craft was a beautiful sight, it certainly was not of this world. There were no seams or rivet marks, just a beautifully polished metallic surface somewhat like gunmetal. It was absolutely stunning to look at, even in those confused moments I wondered what kind of technical skills would be needed to create such a perfect machine as this certainly was. In the morning sun the whole thing glittered as though it was made of gold, even the gunmetal surface seemed to sparkle. The top gently sloped up until it was about 12 or 18 inches thick. At the apex it rose another foot or so where a beautiful golden ball was attached to the shaft. The underside of the craft was only slightly curved; perhaps it could have rested upon the ground even without the landing supports. While all this was happening I was no more than 100 feet away. I decided to get just a bit closer. To do this I would have to crawl through the fence wires. I grabbed the lowest strand of barbed wire and received a hell of an electric shock, which threw me heavily to the ground. (AT THE TIME OF THE SIGHTING THERE WERE NO ELECTRIC FENCES ON OUR PROPERTY). After being flattened by the fence wire whoever or whatever was at the controls must have realized I was close by, because the hum started and the blue glow once more reflected on the grass and the craft began to gently rise. When it had reached a couple of hundred feet it slipped sideways and shot off at tremendous speed towards the river. When it had departed all I was left with was a swish of hot air which once again smelled like burnt electrical components. That wonderful machine was now just a blue dot high over the river, within seconds it had disappeared completely.

After that day I went back to doing nothing for the next few days over the Christmas holiday, but I could not settle down. The whole thing haunted me. I could only ponder the question "Why me?"

11.01.70 CULBURRA BEACH, NSW 0500hrs (CE2 + Missing Time)
On the second Sunday in January I was invited out to stay with a friend of mine at Culburra Beach. I woke early on that Sunday having arranged to go down to the beach at the end of Ocean Street by myself to watch the sunrise.

After my paddle I decided to go back up to the steps and find a nice dry place on the sand and eat my sandwiches and drink. While I was scanning the horizon I noticed a blue blob in the darker portion of the sky over towards the headland which was off to my left. Then just as before it disappeared. I remember thinking at the time that I must be going crazy. "It couldn't happen twice, or could it?" Within a few moments I could see a dark flat looking object coming towards me. It was just above the horizon and growing larger by the minute. As it passed the confines of the headland I could see that the centre looked round while the edges looked thin. I raced back up towards the steps, but something told me not to run that it was all OK and that I would not be harmed. It was an overwhelming feeling of peace and tranquillity. It was as though someone was talking to me, yet I heard no one speak, just that warm feeling of someone being close by. Someone you were sure would not harm you. That's the only way in which I can describe the sensation I experienced as I ran. When I turned around the same craft I saw at Terara was landing on the hard sand just above the breakers. The same events took place on the water's edge as at Terara. The blue glow and the hum slowly died away and all that was left was this beautiful craft sitting majestically on the hard sand. "Why me and how could they know my every move? This and dozens of other questions were running through my mind. I felt that I had been chosen for some very important reason. It certainly was beyond my understanding and as many times as I have pondered the whole thing I am at a loss to understand the significance of both sightings. While all these thoughts were running through my mind I noticed a panel on the side of the craft begin to slide back. It was above the rim and sloping back towards the curvature of the dome. A milky white light filtered out which was so bright it made my eyes water when I tried to look at it. Just as I was trying to come to terms with the opening of the hatch a tall slender figure appeared. It looked black against the white light but for a moment it stepped backwards and I could make out a few details. It was wearing a tight fitting suit that ran from the wrists down to the ankles. In the milky white light the suit looked as though it was dark gray in colour. The head seemed out of proportion to the rest of the body. The hands long and slender hung at its side, the eyes slanted and the facial features flat, there being no signs of emotion – smiles etc. It held out the right hand as though it wanted me to come. I turned away and started crawling back towards the steps, afraid to get up and run.

From that moment on I have no memory of what happened next, but I sure wished I did. My next conscious moment was waking up a couple of miles away on the grass at the end of the headland. My head was pounding with a terrible headache and I had blurred vision. When I looked at my watch it was almost midday, yet it was around 5am by the time I got to the beach. I couldn't work out how I ended up around at the headland. Surely I didn't walk there in an unconscious state, so it seems highly probable that I must have been abducted.

From my studies of UFO cases it seems more than likely that I was chosen at random. However, there are people who seem to have been in contact with these entities all their lives. To this day I have had numerous strange experiences yet I would not relate them in any way to my contact in 1970.

Height was approximately 5000ft before descending at 5-10000ft per minute. Another object appeared at the beginning of the sighting, and from this object a very small and very bright object moved out from under it. This small object moved away from the larger and then grew in size to the same dimensions and shape as the other. The first object had by this time disappeared behind a low hill. The two latter objects also disappeared behind the hill. Duration of sighting was about one minute. Colour of the first object was bright orange.

One warm, dark and clear Saturday night in the mid 1970s, some people travelling from Morgan stopped at the local shops to talk about what so many had been seeing in the sky that evening. Apparently people were seeing lights in the sky. Linda heard of these reports and went for a walk to a large grassy area at the top of the main street and looked up at the sky. Something appeared instantly in front of her although still distant enough to make it difficult to gauge its size. The witness described an object with flashing lights. The object appeared and disappeared at a rate of knots. The glow was very bright. She remembers colours but not which ones. There was no noise and the object appeared to be round. "At approximately 6.45am today I walked out on to the patio of my home at 41 Sunshine Avenue, Ekibin, to travel by car to work. The sun had not risen, and the sky though cloudless was a dull grey. I was facing directly towards the back of Greenslopes Hospital (i .e. N.E.) when I noticed over the hill, between the hospital buildings and the rise known as Stephen's Mount, two close parallel knife cuts in the sky, of a bright golden colour, and about three-quarters of an inch long. I drew the car driver's attention to this, and as we looked at them he said "They are moving." The lines, continued sharp and parallel, travelled upwards and southwards for more than a minute before they began to waver. They then broke up into a clean white vapour-like flow, which quickly spread and disappeared, leaving no trace. I they saw a star satellite disengage itself from the front end, and this continued slowly in a southerly direction. When the car reached Ipswich Road a pedestrian standing on the sidewalk was studying the sky intently, and at work a senior officer told me that he also had seen a group of people pointing to something in the sky about that time. I telephoned the Courier Mail, but they could give me no explanation or information. I also telephoned the Brisbane Meteorological Bureau, who informed me that a weather satellite had been launched that day, but only at 7.36am, almost an hour later. An ex-Ansett pilot contacted AUFORN with the recollection of an incident in Brisbane when a Fokker Friendship crashed into Moreton Bay after an object was sighted on radar heading towards it. When the object merged with the Ansett flight blip on radar, it crashed with the lost of about 17 lives.

He says that the registry of this aircraft was VH-FNU, an ex Air France/ASA aircraft. I have looked up the registry of all Ansett aircraft and cannot find any mention of this Fokker crashing.

It started flying with Ansett in August 1970 and was decommissioned in August 1986. During its service career, it was leased out to Air Pacific and Air Queensland.

But we have found in the archives of The Advertiser posted on 10 June 2003 via Biniam Tekle, mention of a Fokker crash on the 10th June 1960. This was a TAA Fokker aircraft VH-TFB Abel Tasman and it crashed into the sea near Mackay.

All onboard were killed. Maybe this is the incident he is talking about?

Mr Geoff Brooks, an UFORNSW sightings officer, is in the habit of taking his dog for a walk most nights, and on this particular Tuesday night he sighted what at first he believed was a satellite about 10.00pm. From here on we quote from his report:

?It was fairly low in the south-western sky and just passing a star which is equalled in intensity. The object proceeded slowly in a westerly direction and looked just like a satellite, gaining slowly in altitude all the time. It was these factors and also the fact that its distance from me....about six or seven miles perhaps....that made me believe it was a satellite. I lost it for a few minutes in the haze and cloud. However, in a few minutes later, I was amazed to see that it had turned about and was now proceeding on a return course, once again gaining altitude as it went. I was now able to watch it for about fifteen to twenty seconds before I lost it again in the night haze. You will note that the press report claims that it was flashing red and blue, at the time. This, I cannot verify, although at first I thought it was and so concluded at my first sighting of it that it was an aircraft, as we live only a few miles from the Canberra Airport. The suburb of Curtin is about six to eight miles from where I live in Ainslie in a south-westerly direction from me. It could have been an aircraft carrying out radar calibrations or something similar for Honeysuckle Creek and the other tracking stations, as these aircrafts fly in a large circle at night and carry a large white light. These have been the cause of many reports of UFOs. Or it could have been a satellite as they often have sightings of satellites from time to time. This sighting on Tuesday night in the opinion of the investigator, is quite sure it was not one of those aircraft or a satellite? UFORNSW

A curious set of regularly spaced holes in the ground has been found in a paddock of a property near Boggabri, about 220 miles north of Sydney. The object of nearby residents’ curiosity is a circular indentation is about six inches deep. In its centre is a deep hole (first reports do not specify the depth) about eighteen inches across, its sides quite smooth. Around its perimeter are seven holes. Around the holes is a powdery substance. The only disturbed part of the paddock, which is on the property of Mr Willoughby Erratt, about seven miles east of Baggabri, is in the depression. Shape: Huge upturned funnel
Size: Approx three times that of a jumbo jet
Objects: 1
Colour: Battleship grey, dull grey metallic texture, not highly reflective
Sound: None
Speed: 10 knots against the wind
Duration: To be confirmed
Direction: Moving East to West
Witnesses: Flight crew and passengers of QANTAS International liner

In 1970-71 Allan was a flight engineer for QANTAS based in London with 15000 hrs of flying time and was flying onto London during a blue sky day at 33000 to 35000 feet when the flight crew noticed an object like a "huge upturned funnel" at around 42000 to 43000 feet approximately 150 miles away. The captain of the flight announced the UFO to the passengers - for photo opportunities and general gawking, indicating that the captain, flight crew and passengers all felt in no way threatened or in danger. The captain maintained his course and did not divert.

The plane approached the object and flew under it at about a 45 degree angle. From underneath, the base of the funnel did not appear round but instead like a flattened elongated diamond. The object had no framework, no portholes, no doors or windows, and no visible propulsion. The object was confirmed by Shannon control Ireland on radar. Winds at where the object was ie: 42000 feet..travel from West to East due to the Earth's rotation thus eliminating the possibility of a weather balloon. While reading a staff magazine Allan read that a British Airways crew had seen the same object on the same day on a flight from London to Rio.

Allan had also heard since that a similar object was seen by another QANTAS crew in Darwin at night somewhere between 1955-1965. Allan clearly has excellent aviation knowledge and told me that an object of that shape should not be able to fly in our atmosphere. Doug Moffett AUFORN NSW

Sometime in 1970 or 1971, when she was 12 years old, S. was staying at a friend’s house on the western outskirts of Mt Gambier when the event occurred.

During the night, lights engulfed the house; pulsating, warm, bright lights. S. was sleeping on the couch but she awoke to see the dimness of the lights through the lounge window. When she looked towards the end of the house, however, the light was more intense and pulsating more brightly. “Why didn’t I get up and look?” she asked herself in the morning. She declared that she was not scared. Towards the backroom was a room off to one side, where a rocking horse lay. Although she is sure she never got up, somehow her mind’s eye retells the journey of having walked past the rocking horse.

No noises were heard by anyone in the house. S. states that she is sure it happened in the “early am”. Although she says she was a shy 12 year old, she felt compelled to tell the story in front of her French class at school, and does not know why she did. It was pitch black there was no traffic on the road at that time then all of sudden I was enveloped in this big white light. I didn't look out of the car because I wasn't game , the light was around hundred foot wide I could see all the trees around the side of the road. All the gauges on my dash went berserk the speedometer was going over to two hundred and back to zero, the gauge was going all over the place. This only lasted for around 30 to 40 seconds. It followed me down the road for that length of time, it enveloped my car. When the light went away the speedo & temperature gauge went back to normal.

I saw the paper on the weekend I thought you might be interested.
