SEPTEMBER 2006
03.09.06 DANDENONG, VIC 1230hrs (DO)
AUFORN VIC 2006-002 (Reported 07.09.06)
My mother and I saw a white dot in the sky which at first we thought was a
balloon, south of the Ambulance and Hospital in Dandenong. It looked like a
star but in broad daylight? It was stationary and it gradually got smaller
as if it was rising up and eventually it got too small for us to see it. The
reason why my mother and I were outside staring up into the sky in the first
place was because we heard that entire morning planes, the small propellar
type ones, flying around and around, and at about midday we heard what I
definately knew was a airforce jet. Me being a fan of those types of
aircraft ran outside with my mum to try and get a glimpse of the jet. We
could hear it by couldnt figure out which way it was coming from. Thats when
we saw the white star-like dot in the sky, almost directly above us towards
the east. Incidently we did get a glimpse of the jet and it was flying
rather lower than I thought was a allowed for a residential area and I have
only ever heard a jet fly-by once during the Avalon Air Show, several years
ago. Description: Nothing really unusual. It was white. About the same size
as a star would be in the night sky. And as I mentioned above, it was rising
up, it seemed. May have been a balloon? Sighting Duration; about 5 minutes.

Witness rang to report a Gold illuminated, pulsed light from about a week earlier.

“It was a Saturday night, about 8:30 – 9pm lasting 5 – 10 mins.”

Looking approximately Westerly, Mr S saw this object move right to left, stopping at times and twirling around. He described the light effect as a slow strobing; no noise was heard at all. It was a starry night, clear of clouds. The object was low on the horizon. No optical instruments were used. He has lived there almost four years. Dominic McNamara AUFORN NSW

In the evening of 5 September 2006, Tracey was driving home from Leongatha towards Corrumburra along the Ruby Straight Road when a triangle-shaped object with coloured lights went right over the car. Her mother and son were also in the car and saw the object too. They noticed someone else had stopped their car and had got out to have a better look. Tracey was a little ‘spooked’ by the sighting. She said it was about the size of a minibus, it had blue and red lights that were ‘chasing’, and had a big light underneath. She noticed that its way of changing direction was unlike anything else she has seen. The event upset Tracey emotionally.

On another occasion her parents saw the same or similar object behaving the same way, in the same area. The area is described as a farming area. George Simpson AUFORN VIC

Roger, a previous caller, rang to exclaim that yet another of the locals of Kempsey have come forward to tell that they too have seen strange events and lights in the sky in the last few years. His own experience in recent months was when a red light rose from the ground not more than a few hundred metres away and travelled quickly away from him. Dominic McNamara AUFORN NSW

Witnesses heard a very loud explosion right over the central Ferntree Gully to Belgrave Heights area. It was theorised that a large meteor had passed overhead and exploded. The fire brigade went up and down the street a few times, but nothing was found. George Simpson AUFORN VIC

Alex and some members of his family were travelling home through the Kew area and noticed a very large ‘flying saucer’ over Melbourne.  It was very large and round and had amazing flashing lights. It didn’t appear to move for some time. The witnesses decided to get the police to have a look. The local police sergeant came outside and saw the object and said it might be a blimp, but it was not the shape of a blimp. Also, the blimp moves, this was not moving, and was fairly high in the sky. It appeared to be shiny metal on top and clear below, and had many bright coloured lights, so bright that the witness referred to them as ‘laser’ lights. The police officer said he would not be concerned unless it landed. Alex continued into the city and could still see it as he drove in. It continued to appear stationary.  As Alex got nearer to the city, the object was no closer, as if it was very high up and at a great distance. Later on that night it was still there, so Alex went to bed. He has not seen it since, and was convinced it was a real object, as was the police officer, who preferred to explain it as being some type of advertising thing.

It may have been the Holden blimp, however, until it is seen again we won’t know for sure. Alex insisted the object was not like a blimp. It was circular, and made of metal. George Simpson AUFORN VIC

Michael was a fire fighter who was part of a fire crew putting out a fire at the Wingfield rubbish dump on 19 September 2006. At 1.30 am he was having a break from the fire with a number of his colleagues. He looked up at the sky and saw a bright white light moving across the night sky followed by a smaller white object. The two objects came from the east and headed west. He pointed out the objects to his workmates who were standing nearby. Michael stated that the two objects stayed a set distance from each other. The two objects travelled at a speed similar to a satellite moving across the sky. He believes the bright object most probably was the space shuttle or the Russian spacecraft heading to the International Space Station. What caught his attention was the second smaller white light following the large white light. Michael would like to know what it was? Was it an optical illusion or another craft following it? On 20 September 2006, on Philip Island, Mick saw an object in the sky that resembled a satellite, which was closely followed by another. He read the next day in the paper that the International Space Station and the space shuttle had been seen by many people as they passed overhead the night before. George Simpson AUFORN VIC

Billy rang us to report a strange occurrence in the sky directly over his house in Petersham. At around 7:25 pm on the Tuesday night, he was out in the back yard looking at the starry sky; something Billy does regularly. At one point, he noticed what he first thought to be a satellite. The difference here was that the object, although starlike in appearance, was moving way too fast to be a satellite, even at low orbit. Almost immediately, a second object left the area of the first and travelled away at about 30 degrees from the direction of the first. Thereafter, the caller saw a third object like the first two. The second object was now on a course to intercept the third. But when the second object reached the third, this second ‘wanderer’ promptly turned back and headed toward the first object again before being lost from view over the top of the house.

This entire episode lasted no longer than 5 seconds.

The caller has a thorough knowledge of the night sky and is famiiar with satellite and high altitude man made craft. Dominic McNamara AUFORN NSW

A red light was seen near 9pm by two witnesses at New Town (Hobart). The
light was moving slowly from the south towards the witnesses. However, after
a few minutes it appeared to dim and fall towards the ground. A "garbage
bag" hoax would seem to be the most likely explanation. Keith Roberts TUFOIC
