Witness: Mr. Martin
Number of witnesses present: 2
Sighting Duration: 20-30 seconds
Occupation: Fire Fighter

Observation: Whilst watching airliners approach and enter a couple of cumulus clouds above and to the south of my position with my father-in-law, and my daughter, I noticed a brightly-reflective metallic object enters and exit a cloud-base from the left, halt suddenly just below and to the left of a particular cloud that an approaching airliner was about to enter. I tried to point this object out to the others, but they were looking at the wrong place. A passerby, a man with two children, stopped and confirmed he could see the object also, and agreed it was metallic and spheroid. As we watched, the object suddenly shot straight up, through the cloud and into the blue sky above it.

Description: Object did not change shape. Approach to stationary point was rapid, but not extreme. Object was stationary for approximately fifteen seconds, glinting very brightly with reflected sunlight, almost as if it was rotating on its axis. As the airliner entered the cloud above and behind it, it shot skywards, passing through the cloud and continuing vertically until lost to sight in the blue. Object's rate of ascent from a stationary position was shockingly extreme to this experienced observer of aircraft, and weather phenomena.

Location: On the dam wall of Lysterfield Park Lake, Lysterfield, east of Melbourne, looking towards the southern sky. - Other Witnesses: Man who confirmed my sighting was a passerby. I would be surprised if aircrew of passing airliner did not observe the object's passage, as it would have passed very close to them. - Actual Size:My visual references were the cloud-bases the object passed through, and the approaching airliner beyond and above the cumuli. - Object appeared to be approximately the same size as the cockpit and nose-cone of the aircraft from our perspective. - Altitude: Just below the cloud-base of the cumulus. The approaching airliner, which was obviously descending for landing at Tullamarine Airport, was near the cloud's top. - Object - Origin: Object appeared from the east ( my left ) passing through a couple of small isolated cumuli in an otherwise clear sky. Object stopped suddenly almost due south of observer's position. - Object Destination:Object went vertically from a stationary position, through the cloud, and continued upward until lost from sight in a few seconds. - Weather Visibility: Clear. - Weather Comments:small number of cumuli in an otherwise clear sky

Observation: I was on my balcony having a cigarette and saw what initially looked like a star, out towards the Geelong direction... Probably, around the lights at St Leonards... It was low in the sky, and I noticed it because it was significantly brighter than a star and was blinking and flickering quite a bit.

I then noticed quite a few other objects flickering and flashing in the vicinity. None as bright as the first object I spotted, however. They were all moving around and at one point two of the objects appeared to cross path.

The original object would dim down considerably until it nearly disappeared and then brighten up massively so it looked like a huge fireball, in the distance. At its brightest it would have been 4-5 times brighter and bigger than the brightest star in the sky. Random flickering objects were appearing, in the distance. They appeared much like glitter would up close, but obviously much farther off. The bright object was travelling to the right, and I eventually lost track of it.

Another object was travelling left-right and then appeared to brighten up just like the first one, and when in roughly the same position as when the first one did. I was on the phone the whole time and so did not film it on my phone. It would have been impossible to see on my phone's video as although it's a HD camera, the objects would have been far too distant to show up on the film, in my opinion. By 11.45pm, I could no longer see any of these objects.

Description:A couple of the objects increased in size and brightness as described above. Other's flickered. When at its brightest, the bright object was yellowish like a flame... The other ones flickered and showed the colours of blue and red. - Apparent Size:Pea-Sized - Apparent Size Other:Pea sized at their brightest - Actual Size:No idea. Very hard to guess as distance completely unknown. They appeared to be over the water but that's just a guess. - Altitude:At a guess.... 500m-1000m high? Object Origin:They were travelling left and right... They were already active when I first spotted them and were over the water in the only water view we have here. - Object Destination:They stayed at the altitude they were originally, the whole time... They travelled left and right mainly... Not up and down... - Moon Visible:The moon was not visible from my vantage point.- Planets Visible:There were the standard stars visible. I have no real knowledge of which are, which so cannot name which stars were visible. - Weather Visibility: Clear, Mild, Calm

05.10.10 KEILOR (WA) 23:30hrs
Source: AUFORN ONLINE UFO Report Form
Witness: Mr. Daniel
Number of witnesses present: 1
Sighting Duration: 10 minutes.
Occupation: Microbiologist

Observation: We saw what appeared to be a fireball in the sky approaching from the west - it was shimmering as if it was on fire - there were no flashing lights, nothing that identified it as a plane (as we live close to Melbourne Airport) and there was no sound whatsoever. At first we thought it might be a meteor but it was moving much too slowly, then we thought the solar panel reflection from a satellite as its speed seemed steady and its trajectory did not alter initially. After a short period, it began to change course slowly going in a north easterly direction. At one point, it appeared that the fireball hovered and then very slowly moved off.

In terms of its intensity, I would probably say that it was brighter than venus in the night sky. Having lived close to the airport and seeing planes on approach, etc. I can say without a doubt that it wasn't a plane... My wife witnessed it too. Description:The best way of describing it was like a fireball - it had a fire colour to it. There was no sound and although initially its course was similar to saltellites and a consistent speed it did eventually change course and speed. - Apparent Size:Pea-Sized - Actual Size: Impossible to define - Altitude:cloud height as after travelling in the north east direction it eventually disappeared behind clouds I'm not sure what the cloud ceiling was last night at Melbourne airport around 11:30pm. - Object Origin:It came from the north west and travelled to the north east after moving through a smooth parabolic curve. - Object Destination:north east behind clouds. - Moon Visible:No, the moon was not visible. - Planets Visible:some stars - it was partly cloudy. - Weather Visibility: Clear, Mild, Cloudy, Calm. - Weather Comments:It was mostly clear with high level cloud in the north east.

13.10.10 MANDURAH (WA) 23:05hrs
Source: AUFORN ONLINE UFO Report Form
Witness: Mr. Clint
Number of witnesses present: 1
Sighting Duration: 3 - 4 seconds
Occupation: X

Observation: I am house sitting for my sister watching a bit of foxtel. The backyard faces south of Mandurah. I had been out in the back yard a few times this evening having a cigarette. I always look at the stars when I'm out having a smoke and try to track most stars during the night always just hoping to see something strange. I noticed a star that was closer to the star that I had been spotting earlier. It looked just like any other star in the sky it wasn't moving at all just like any other star in the sky just seemed strange that it wasn't their earlier like an hour before when i had a smoke. All of a sudden, it just plunged to the ground in like 3 to 4 seconds I waited about a hour in the back hoping to see it take off unfortunately not. I know one thing it was no shooting star or plane.

Description: no just looked exactly like a star. There was no tail like a shooting star. Location: riverside gardens in Mandurah facing south of Mandurah. - Actual Size: exactly, the same size as a star. - Altitude: tree top height, in the distance. - Object Origin: Spotted south of Mandurah objects was suspended. - Object Destination: South and straight down to the ground. - Moon Visible: I didn't see the moon from where I was facing. - Moon Size Comparison: same size as a star. - Planets Visible: yes. - Weather Visibility: Clear, Pleasant, clam, - Weather Comments: very very clear night.

17.10.10 THE RIDGEWAY, AVOCA BEACH (NSW) 20:00 & 21:30 hrs
Source: AUFORN ONLINE UFO Report Form
Witness: Mr. Morrison
Number of witnesses present: 2
Sighting Duration: 5 incidents same night, longest 3 to 4 minutes.
Occupation: Local business owner / operator ( electrical technician )

Observation: While observing the Moon and some stars that were visible in the bright moonlit sky which , I first saw what I thought was a very very bright star in a place where there was not usually a star of this brightness( near Ophiucus constellation )Nth West in the sky.As I watched and alerted my friend, the "star " which appeared to be stationary went very bright and then dimmed for about 3-5 seconds before disappearing. Secondly, about 10 mins later, I saw another bright flash in the sky, with the same sort of brightness as the first " star ". This time it was in the South West of the Sky near the constellation of Tringulum Australe. Once again, the object became very bright ( brighter than Venus ) and then faded before disappearing. This object was also stationary. Thirdly, I saw another straight up above us which I just caught before it faded. This object was not as bright as the first two, as I saw it as it was fading before disappearing. Also Stationary.

Yet again about 15 mins later I saw another flash to the Nth East which did the same as the first two, Brightening to be brighter than Venus and then fading over about 3-5 seconds and disappearing. It also appeared stationary.

Now after these were gone, Both, myself and a friend saw a very Bright moving object. It was not a plane, as we are very familiar with the flight paths over us, as we spend a lot of time with our scopes outside at night. We managed to track this thing with a 14 inch telescope moving it by hand, but couldn't see any more details due to the brightness. The telescope seemed to give the object a bit more size, but not much more definition. We tracked it for about 30 seconds. Each of us having a look at it through, the scope.

This object was first thought to be the Space Station as we have seen it many times before. As we watched it we realised it was moving much too slowly for the ISS Space Station. It moved across the sky from Sth West to East Nth East before disappearing possibly into the Earths Shadow to the East. This object was about the same brightness as all the other object seen earlier but this one was moving. It was moving too slow for a satellite of this brightness. We can see up to about 10-20 satellites per observing session but this was different. Basically, my understanding is as follows....The slow dim satellites are the ones that are far from Earth on and wide orbit. They move slow but are dim. The faster brighter ones are the ones that are closer to the earth, and they disappear into the Earths shadow quickly after sunset.

This moving object was both Bright and Slow, which seemed to go against the normal pattern of satellites.

After this sighting and observing session was over, I went to the internet to check the ISS Space Station movement as I have done many times before. There were No ISS passes over us at the time of the Sighting or any time that day at all.

I also tried to see if the flashes were what is known as Iridium satellites but couldn't find any info on them to tell me it that's what I saw. The iridium satellites I thought also moved as you watch them flash then fade, but the object I saw had no movement and appeared to be stationary.

Summary.

First Flash sighted about 8-8.15 pm 17th Oct 2010. Last moving object seen about 9.30 pm 17th Oct 2010.

Actual Size: Hard to tell, but about twice the brightness of Venus at its Brightest. - Altitude: Upper atmosphere maybe as the moving object seemed to disappear into the Earth Shadow as a satellite would. I am assuming it was reflecting light instead of emanating light. - Object Origin: Sth West to East Nth East ( moving object ). - Object Destination: It disappeared into the eastern Sky. - Moon Visible: The Moon was past the first quarter and also was very bright. The Moon tended to brighten the sky so much it was difficult to see anything bu mostly the bright stars. There was some light high altitude cloud around too. - Moon Size Comparison: Star sized objects much smaller than the Moon. - Planets Visible: Venus was visible earlier but went down behind some trees, and we couldn't see Venus at the time of the sightings. Weather Temp: Mild, Cloudy, Calm. - Weather Comments: Light High cloud - Viewing Aids: Yes....a 14 inch newtonian Telescope manually guided.
