On 1 July 2005 I was driving back from Adelaide and I was on the straight [road] on the Middleton to Goolwa Road around 1.30 pm when about 100 m in front of me was a ball of liquid metallic mercury light that went straight across the road. It moved in the up direction and went straight again vertically and then disappeared at a speed over the ocean! There was no sound and no interference with the radio and the sighting lasted about five seconds. I was pretty scared as I do not usually believe in these things but … I do now. What was it and why could I see it? Did anybody else see it? Anthony Clarke UFORNSW

On 3 July 2005 at around 8.10 pm, Fiona was sitting on the front steps of her home in Charlestown, facing south. She saw a red pulsating light in the sky moving very fast and towards her location, heading north. The red pulsating light suddenly came to a complete stop above the road behind her house. After a few minutes the stationary pulsating light moved slowly upwards and then disappeared. A few days later some of her friends mentioned that they had seen a red pulsating light at 7.30 pm doing similar manoeuvres, but not on the same night. Fiona was not able to provide any other details about her sighting. Karen Burden AUFORN NSW

Between 7.05 and 7.10 am on 14 July 2005, Brian was the passenger in his workmate’s car, travelling in medium to heavy traffic in a northerly direction along the Phillip Highway, Elizabeth, when, near the Ridley Reserve, he noticed a flash of bright light below the clouds in the northeast. It was strobe-like in intensity and he saw it three more times travelling in a southeasterly direction. From his perspective through the car window it appeared to move five to eight centimetres in about five seconds. Then it was gone. The driver asked Brian, “Did you see that?” to which Brian replied yes. They then joked about it being a UFO. E-mail Report, 14.07.05

Trevor saw a huge light at about a 30 to 45-degree angle of descent coming down very fast. It looked nearly as large as the moon to view, and there were no aircrafts around at the time. It was dark, about 7.30, and directionally, it looked like it could have landed at Upper Ferntree Gully. It disappeared behind a house, as it went down. There was no noise or collision sound as expected for such a large object coming down at such speed.

According to Canberra Aviation at the time, pilots saw a large meteor crossing the sky on a descent angle.

On 20 July 2005, around dusk, Peter was driving over the dry lake to Roxby Downs, 11 km from Woomera, when he saw the same object he had previously filmed. He described the object as a little shiny and hovering much as it did on the occasion when he had filmed about thirty seconds of the sighting. This new sighting lasted only a few seconds. A copy of the film has been sent to AURA.

On 21 July 2005, at 5.43 pm, Sue and John saw an object appear over Mt Baw Baw, northwest of their location at Loch Sport. It rose slowly and took about twenty to thirty minutes to cross the sky, moving towards the southeast. Sue reported the sighting to AUFORN and, after the follow-up conversation, George (AUFORN VIC) has concluded that the sighting was consistent with the International Space Station although it appeared to be travelling far too slowly. George states: “It was not typical UFO behaviour. I’d say most likely it was a high altitude military plane travelling interstate.” George Simpson AUFORN VIC

On 23 July 2005, at about 4.00 am, Catherine was woken up when her 2-year-old stirred. She reports: “I got up and covered him over. Then I went to the loo, washed my hands and as I turned to dry them I peered out the bathroom window only to see something appear from behind the hill. It rose up level with the top of the house pad that we’d cut, although it was still a few kilometres away. The hair on my neck stood up as I could see red, green and white lights flashing, slow at first then faster like chaser lights and back to a slow blinking again. I pulled the curtain closed, but had to look again, only to see it rise up and move to the north, behind a tree out of my view. I began wondering if I should phone my neighbour to see if he could see what I was seeing, but I decided that it may not be very appropriate considering he was a shift worker and may be having his day off. So I went to my bedroom for a clearer view. The object moved to the top of the tree in my line of sight. I could still see the lights changing colour and their sequence of speed. It made small quick manoeuvres as I watched, by rising and descending in diagonal, circular and straight sharp movements. Then it would have periods where it would hover in the same spot but it appeared to be swaying or floating on the breeze, then suddenly move. It rose again and moved a little north.

“I decided that there must be somebody that I could call, so I began looking in the phone book with a torch, as we don’t have a power supply, only a generator and my husband had stayed down the coast with friends for the night. Eventually I found a number for UFO sightings. I phoned and left a message (the time was 4.25 am when I found my torch) I went back to my room to find that it had moved behind yet another tree, so I went back to the bathroom window where I could see it again clearly. I hovered for a while then elevated quite high and moved back into the distance. I then noticed that some light cloud cover was passing by. When it was clear again, it descended and came back to its original position where it hovered for quite some time. I noticed that when it did move the lights on the object became much brighter and the little rays of light would spread out as though looking at a car light on high-beam. There was no sound at all, I could only hear my own heart pounding. I then noticed what appeared to be another one, with the same light intensity hovering above some more cloud cover, it moved back into the distance and rose slightly as a plane flew by to the south then the one I was originally observing flashed up through the clouds, its lights flickering through the gaps in the cloud and disappeared. By this time it was already first light plus the sky was moonlit all night.

“The sun was starting to rise and the sky had changed colour. I looked at the clock and it was 6.25 am. Most of the stars had already faded into the background but the lights on the objects were still like a beam of bright light. The other object disappeared into the distance at 6.29 am (bearing in mind that our clock is approx. five minutes fast).

My husband witnessed another object the following Saturday at 4.25 am but it appeared further away and was not as bright although it was moving in a similar movement and he said go back to sleep. I got up at 5.01 and it was gone.”

On 28 July 2005, Laura was walking her dog in the Brisbane suburb of Strathpine when, around 8.00 pm, she looked up and saw five red dots moving slowly in a cluster in the southeastern sky. The non-flashing bright red lights stayed in a cluster but as a group they moved in every direction slowly “like the speed of tai chi”. She estimated that they were 50 km away and each round dot was twice the size of a star. E-mail Report, 28.07.05
